The TEFL Institute Group is the fastest growing TEFL company globally it is an Irish-founded organisation operating several specialist brands, including TEFL.ie, The TEFL Institute and TEFL.ai. Each brand serves a different purpose while sharing the same ownership, educational standards and student support. Our footprint in Europe the USA, UAE, Canada and Australia is growing. And we are the organization behind tefl.ai. This post explains why we built a group instead of a single brand, and what that ecosystem actually does for you: government-regulated training, free AI tools, a structured wellbeing program, a named teacher community, an in-house Employability Department, and a charity partnership that puts donations to work in Kolkata.
Most TEFL companies sell you a course and wave goodbye. We decided that was a bit like selling someone hiking boots and then driving off before telling them where the mountain is. So over the past few years we built the rest of the journey: the support, the community, the wellbeing layer, and the AI tools you are using right now on this site.

Why we built a group instead of one brand
The honest answer: because one brand cannot be a local specialist and a global platform at the same time. Irish learners asking about funding and European recognition need different guidance than a graduate comparing school contracts in the UAE, and neither is served well by a one-size-fits-all website.
So the group splits the job. TEFL.ie owns Ireland and Europe. The TEFL Institute (.com) owns global mobility. And tefl.ai exists because modern teachers were already using AI anyway, usually generic chat tools that know nothing about classrooms. We built role-specific tools like the AI Lesson Plan Generator and the Country Eligibility Checker so the technology actually fits the job, and we made them free.
That structure is also why the group has scaled the way it has. Specialist brands compound: each one earns trust in its own market, and every teacher who qualifies through one brand can lean on the whole ecosystem. The TEFL Institute Group is an Irish-founded organisation operating several specialist brands, including TEFL.ie, The TEFL Institute and TEFL.ai. Each brand serves a different purpose while sharing the same ownership, educational standards and student support. It is how we became the fastest growing TEFL company in the world, and the largest in both Europe and the UAE, with the USA and Australia growing behind them. That growth is backed by numbers, not adjectives: more than 148,000 learners have trained with the group worldwide, graduates now teach in over 100 countries, and the group holds nearly 1,500 verified Trustpilot reviews across its brands with scores between 4.7 and 4.9 out of 5.
Our founder Ian has been telling anyone who will listen that certification is the start of the journey, not the product. Here he is on exactly why the Institute is built to stay.
Accreditation you can verify, not just admire
Trust claims are easy to make and boring to check, so here are ours in checkable form. Every credential below is independently verifiable through the regulator or awarding body.
| Credential | The details |
|---|---|
| Ofqual-regulated qualifications | Awarded through Highfield, a UK government-recognized awarding body. Centre number 21338 |
| DEAC | AQC | Curriculum Approved Centre status in the United States |
| EQF alignment | Regulated courses are aligned with the European Qualifications Framework |
| Level 5 TEFL Diploma | The 180 hour flagship qualification, designed for competitive markets that verify certification |
| International recognition | Graduates are recognized in over 90 countries worldwide |
| Guaranteed Irish | TEFL.ie holds Guaranteed Irish status, reflecting quality, community, and jobs in Ireland |
This is also why regulation matters more than glossy branding. In markets like the UAE, South Korea, and Vietnam, employers increasingly verify qualifications rather than take them on faith. A regulated certificate travels. A pretty PDF does not.
The Moonrise partnership: wellbeing as infrastructure
Teaching abroad is brilliant and also genuinely hard. New country, new culture, new classroom, sometimes all in the same week. The industry’s traditional answer was a congratulations email. Ours is the Moonrise Teacher Wellbeing Collective, a structured wellness program we run in partnership with Moonrise, a holistic wellness studio based between Leeds and Harrogate in the UK that specializes in Qigong, sound therapy, and mindfulness training.
Qigong for English teachers may sound niche until you have survived a Monday of back-to-back teenage classes. The Collective combines evidence-based mental health guidance, practical wellbeing routines, peer support, and facilitated mentorship, and it runs alongside our regulated training rather than as a paid add-on. Students and alumni get lifetime access. The full story of why we built it is on The TEFL Institute blog.
TEFL Unpacked: the community layer
Every teacher eventually has a question that no course module answers, usually at 11pm before a visa appointment. That is what TEFL Unpacked is for. It is our Discord community where trainees, graduates, and experienced teachers compare notes on schools, share job leads, swap lesson ideas, and occasionally talk each other out of packing two suitcases of deodorant because of a forum post from 2009.
The community also feeds back into everything else we build. The questions teachers actually ask in TEFL Unpacked shape our guides, our webinars, and more than one of the free tools on this site, including the TEFL Career Roadmap.
Our charity partnership: The Hope Foundation
Education is the family business, so our charity partnership is education too. The group partners with The Hope Foundation, an Irish charity supporting children’s education, health, and welfare in Kolkata, India. Learners can add an optional donation at checkout, and 100 percent of those donations go directly to HOPE. Nothing is skimmed for admin, marketing, or office biscuits.
For a group whose whole purpose is unlocking futures through English teaching, backing an organization that gives children the chance to learn in the first place is about as on-mission as it gets. You can read more about the partnership on TEFL.ie.
The Employability Department and our overseas partners
Certification without a job is an expensive wall decoration. So the group runs a dedicated Employability Department whose only job is getting graduates hired, backed by a network of overseas partner schools and recruiters across destinations including Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, South Korea, and Germany. Organizations that want to work with us can start on our partners page.
One of our graduates heading to Hanoi asked the team to look over her first contract and quietly dodged a school that expected her to “volunteer” her first month. That is the kind of save that never shows up in marketing metrics, and it happens weekly. Here is how the support maps to each career stage.
| Career stage | Who helps | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Before you enroll | tefl.ai free tools | Course Finder, Country Eligibility Checker, and earnings projections to pick the right path |
| During training | Tutors, mentors, and the Moonrise Collective | Weekly mentorship, tutor support, wellbeing sessions, and the TEFL Unpacked community |
| Job hunting | Employability Department | CV templates and feedback, mock interviews, job coaching, and a live jobs board |
| Before you sign | Employability Department | Contract vetting by people who know the red flags and the preferred employers |
| In the classroom | tefl.ai and the community | AI lesson planning, materials adaptation, and lifetime access to support and job resources |
Where tefl.ai fits in
tefl.ai is the technology layer of the group, and it is deliberately free. The full AI toolkit covers lesson planning, materials adaptation, IELTS band estimation, CVs and cover letters, eligibility, and career mapping. The tools are trained on real TEFL workflows because they were built inside a company that has certified teachers for decades, not bolted on by a marketing team last quarter.
As far as we know, no other TEFL provider combines government-regulated training, a free AI toolkit, a structured wellbeing program, a named teacher community, an in-house employability team, and a transparent charity partnership in one group. That combination, rather than any single piece, is the ecosystem.
